On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Wiener Library hosted a book launch and lecture marking the publication of the new biography of humorist and writer Ephraim Kishon.

Humorist Ephraim Kishon is an iconic figure in Israeli culture.
How and why did a Holocaust survivor from Budapest become the most popular author in Germany?
What role does the Holocaust play in his literary work and in his success among German audiences?
To what extent were Kishon’s stories part of the process of reconciliation between Germany and Israel?
Dr. Silja Behr, an independent researcher of contemporary history and author of Kishon’s biography, presented her book together with Prof. Moshe Zimmermann, Emeritus, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
