It is an "Open shelf" collection
The collection was initiated to commemorate Major General Asaf Simhony (1922-1956),
who was a commander in the Suez War and died on the night the war ended
in a plane crash on the way to Haifa.
The collection comprises hundreds of books on the history of Jewish settlements
in Eretz-Yisrael,
on the history of the State of Israel and General historical texts.
The books (in English and in Hebrew) were published from the late 19th century to our current time.
Many titles were published by the "Maarachot" military related publishing
house and by the publishing house of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
